Please go to my site there to get the most updated information and loads of pictures of what I am up to. I like blogging, but I am so much better and faster on Facebook. I love quilting, sewing, cross stitching, decorating, gardening and so many other things. I reach so many more people at my page than here, so I've decided to keep doing what I'm doing there, in hopes of meeting more of you! Happy Holidays to you all!!
It's been a rough few weeks, getting over the flu, which does take me some time because I have a compromised immune system due to medications and infusions I take for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Nothing new to me, I've had RA since I was 39, but this flu that went around (and still is going around) this year really hit me hard. After Dr visits and antibiotics for secondary infections I'm feeling more like myself everyday!! And while I was laying in bed I thought a lot about some of the projects I had been working on, and how I couldn't wait to get some of them finished, so I thought I'd share a special one with you today.

Of course having worked for fabric companies over the years I usually don't find a lot of time for my own projects but I've made some changes in my workload that allow me time to work on my own projects so that I may even have a chance to get some finished before I die!!! Sorry, I know I will be around awhile, I haven't hit 70 yet, Ha Ha, but as you grow older to do start to think a little bit about your own mortality. Especially when you have a dear friend who is in the last stages of Pancreatic Cancer. It's been very hard to see the changes take place over the months and know that the inevitable is near. I just spent 45 minutes of quality time, talking and laughing with her 2 weeks ago and she wanted to cross stitch together the next. Well, the next week she wasn't doing too well, and I told her husband I would call again. She has been going downhill fast, I couldn't believe the change in just 2 weeks time. Yesterday I spent an afternoon with her and other friends and family by her bedside, and she was already beyond communicating with us. So sad, and I will miss her so much. So I dedicate this post to my dear friend Janet, because the project I want to share with you is a cross stitch project that I have been working on since December, and because I never got to share it with her.

It's called "Full Heart" by Shepard's Bush and I have to say I have enjoyed stitching it so much!! It was my first time to use only 1 thread over 2 and it gives it such a delicate look. The extra fancy stitches and little beads made it so much fun.

It's also fun to see the little buttons add to the story of the project.

The satin stitch on the star I had never done in cross stitch before, and I was pleased with how it turned out.

So I got it finished and I had a Shaker Box with a lid insert to finish my project. However I had never done a finishing like this before, and I also didn't want to destroy the box lid in the process!!

I thought I'd share a little of the process with you which can also be used in part to finish an ornament or round or oval finishing. I read several instructions and also found an ornament video on YouTube which helped a lot.

First you need the template or mounting board which is cut to size to fit the box lid. Most Shaker boxes come with them, and actually they are cut slightly smaller than the opening so you have the room needed to insert your project. Then you stitch a running or basting stitch using a heavy crochet thread about 1 1/2"" away from the edges of the mounting board. Trim the corners and excess fabric about 1" away from the outside of your stitching.

This crochet thread is size 3, a good weight and made of cotton. I found it at Michaels. Use a larger eyed needle to thread about 24" of it so that you have length for 3" tails at the beginning and end of your basting stitch. I wish I had taken more pictures of the process along the way to share with you, I wasn't thinking!

Cut out 2-3 layers of batting using the mounting board for a template. I glued the layers of batting together and then glued them to one side of the mounting board.

Place your stitching project face down on a mat, and the batting side of the mounting board centered on top of the wrong side of your stitchery. Slowly and carefully draw the basting stitch from both ends around the mounting board until you have pulled the linen evenly and smoothly around the board. Pull it tight and tie a knot in the two ends. Trim leaving about 2" of cord. Now adjust the gathers even more, and run another basting stitch about 1/2" closer to the outside of the first basting stitch. This will help you gather in the fabric a bit more, tie it off and trim off any excess fabric in the middle leaving at least 1/2" left.

After this, it all seemed so bulky so I did another step that I had read in another set of directions I had researched, and cut a muslin circle about 3/4" larger than the mounting board. I placed it on the back of the mounting board where all the gathers were, and slip stitched it in place using regular thread, turning under the edges of the fabric as I went around the entire circle, smoothing the fabric to keep it flat as I went. This really helped to pull in the bulkiness of the back and smooth it down.

The lid has a slight recess in the top to allow room for your stitchery piece after it has been mounted. Use double stick foam mounting tape on the lid, don't get too close to the edges or the tape will show. Peel off the paper and center your mounted stitchery, right side up, on the lid and press it down.

I used a large heavy Bible (for lack of a better weighted book) on top of the lid to help flatten the stitchery and make it adhere to the tape, for several hours. I was so happy to not have to use glue because we live in a very dry climate and glue tends to dry and pop off after a while. Besides, no mess!!! :) Then I cut a circle of fabric to fit the inside bottom of the box and put a little Modge Podge on the wrong side of the fabric which glued it in place (minimal mess) LOL!!

I may still find a small braid with a color that goes with the cross stitch to help fill in any little gaps. These boxes are made by hand which is why they are so expensive, so they are not perfect spheres.

The stitching edges were pretty close to the edge so there wasn't much room for error when centering the stitchery, but I'm pleased with it.

Hope you enjoyed the mounting lesson. Next time I will be sure to get more pics of the entire process. And I have some quilting projects to share with you next time. No matter what, enjoy life and live it to the fullest, and keep God close. We never know when our time will come. I'm back.I've been using Facebook for a long time now, and though I still use it, I wanted to get involved in my blog again so I could share more photos and details about what I'm up to and my life in general. Time goes by so fast, and I've really missed blogging and visiting other blogs. So I'm going to give it a try once more. I was having problems in the past with photos loading, etc, but I know a lot has changed in the blog world since I've been gone and I'm up to the challenge of figuring things out as I go along. :) OH! I will STILL be on Facebook too, so you can find me there as well.

Valentines Day is right around the corner, and I've been working on some sweet projects for the house. Just wanted to share and say Happy Valentines Day to everyone! I found the cutest Tiny Hearts mini quilt designed by www.ellisandhiggs.com that I fell in love with, and just had to make one! It didn't take long, and I sewed a "tiny" sleeve on the back of it so I could hang it on my wire mini quilt holder that I purchased last summer. We had a fun get together with friends last Friday for a poker party and Sloppy Joes and it was fun to decorate it up a bit.
I have lots of patterns and ideas to share with you which I will get to with time. I also wanted to share that the latest Nancy's Notions catalog has my Bramble Patch quilt kit included that I designed for Windham Fabrics last fall. The quilt is 51" x 51" but it would also be a great quilt in a larger size by increasing the block size.
I so intended to post on my blog during the holidays, but I was having trouble uploading pictures. I didn't have the time to figure it out, but this morning I've learned that I have much better luck if the pictures have been sent to Picassa first. What a relief, now I can get back into the blogging because who wants to really read without the fun pictures??!
I have been teaching the Kim Diehl Whatnot's Club locally for the last six months. It has been so much fun doing these darling little quilts that you can use in so many ways. I'm really enjoying the process and it's also been fun to take the time to teach once again. These two pictures are just 2 of the club favorites from last year. I also have more to upload and I will do that soon. Session 2 of the club starts again in March for me and I'm really excited about the new fabrics by Henry Glass that Kim has designed. These can be wall hangings, table toppers, or whatever suits your fancy. I also like that there is a lot of diversity in the varied designs. So even though these may be old news, the new ones will be made soon and I will post those for you to see as well.

I also have another quilt out in the new McCalls magazine, for a quilt I designed for RJR Fabrics using Lynette Anderson's line called Pocket Full of Daisies. It will be out on the stands any day now so watch for the newest issue, March/April 2015.
This is the new American Glory pattern that i designed! It is made using the Faded Splendor fabrics by RJR Fabrics, designed by Robyn Pandolph. Kits are being sold at Keepsake Quilting and you can also order patterns directly from me. Email me at jnagle4@cox.net! Or, you may also call me at 702-354-8536.

I have been away from my blog for some time. Sometimes we go through that old adage called "Life Changes"! My husband became very ill while we were on vacation in other state to go to our grandson and twin granddaughter's high school and 8th grade graduations. Long story short, he ended up in ICU in a coma for several days and we missed the graduation ceremonies!! He was diagnosed with viral meningitis and it has taken time for his recovery. But we are so grateful that he is recovering beautifully and is back to work with follow up care continuing. So that's where I have been! Being a caregiver is demanding work! I'm grateful that it was a short term job, but in the meantime I got really behind on my blog and many other things for my own work. I did however, manage to get this pattern done and it is turning out to be a huge success. Thank you for all the wonderful comments I've had on this quilt on my Facebook page. Now that I have my blog working again, and I am able to work on it, I have some catching up to do!

I also wanted to share this really cool cart that I got from IKEA. Actually my lovely daughter bought it for me for my birthday. It is so sturdy, pretty--(I just love aqua) and functional! It rolls smoothly and doesn't take up much space. I can put projects in progress into the trays and just roll it up to my sewing machine when i am ready to start again. Isn't this the coolest thing ever?

Well, that's all the news for now but I will be back
soon. More updates to come! Happy Quilting!
For a while I had it right in the middle of the room, up against the window.

Ok, a real guest bed, finally!

I love my counter top over the cabinets along the far wall, but on the right side of the bed I had my desk and sewing cabinet against the opposite wall. It seemed ok for a while, until running around the bed every time I wanted to use the iron (see it in far corner!) or trimming a block at the cutting board meant I spent more time walking around the bed than I did sewing! I mean, it looked nice and all, but not very functional. Then I had this brilliant idea. My husband just rolls his eyes when I get these brilliant ideas because he knows that means he will be involved! LOL
So I moved the desk, the bed, the sewing cabinet, rearranged my pegboard and found some real floor space! Cool! I made a nice triangle for working--machine to cutting board to the iron. Way way better!!
So now I have this nice L-shaped work space! My sewing cabinet is in front of the closet, but it has wheels to easily move it when I need to find something stored. The most used items are in the cabinets and drawers so that won't be a problem. Of course the dogs love it because they can see out the window, or just lay beside me on the bed when I'm designing on the computer. I love that I can see and actually USE my design wall again. At first the new bed placement looked way out of balance, so I figured I'd just hang a quilt or two to ground it, like a headboard. I ended up hanging the runner on the window wall--it was just the right amount of space, and it matched. John hung the TV above the desk after this picture was taken, and it turns or tilts so it still works ok.
Those small colorful blocks on the design wall are my first blocks for the Tula Pink 101 Modern Blocks from her book. They are so much fun to do, really fast and easy, and picking out the fabrics is the best part! I'm using some of her fabrics, a lot of solids and anything funky in my stash that I can find. I highly recommend her her book, it's something new and different!
What a fun lady, and so talented! It was a thrill to meet her and talk a little bit of shop! She was full of great ideas and some good business sense. Thanks Terry for sharing!
She was nice enough to take a picture with me, and her trunk show was wonderful. (Terry is on the right). So that day I got to display some of the quilts that I had designed and made last year. The center quilt is the Lemon Tree that I mentioned before when I couldn't find a picture! The center block on point is a lemon tree applique with star blocks set on point in the first border.
The smaller star quilt you see on the right made cover of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine's Feb 2014 issue. What a surprise and a thrill. While I was there for the day, a customer came in to show me her version of the quilt in fall colors, what a great job she did, and I apologize to her for not finding her name that I had so carefully written down!
We had some great sunsets this winter too that I just had to share. Now it's spring and I can hardly believe that Easter is right around the corner. This was an exceptionally gorgeous display of Mother Nature, right from the back yard. What a palette this would be for a quilt! If you ever wonder what shades and values to put together in a quilt, just look around you, Mother Nature gives us the best possible examples and choices! I'll be back with more soon, there just so much to share!! Happy quilting everyone. Have a great week.
It's been over a year and i have so much to share with you, but it's going to take some time. I got a little overloaded last year--so much so that this year i promised myself some time off, time with family, friends, and quilt retreats. Time to work on my dozens of quit tops to get them quilted. Time to finish a few of the UFO's in the closet. Time for a book, a really good one, and a real Saturday afternoon to take a nap and be down right lazy.
I've missed blogging a lot, and it's time to return. Life has been good, and yes, i still love to quilt....maybe even more than ever before. I took the first 3 months of this year to recharge my batteries and start my new plan. So I'm starting with today. It's a perfect day to start! And I'm starting with my most current project!
I happen to love blue, and the blues in this line by Robyn Pandolph for RJR Fabrics really hit home with me. I grew up on the California coast and the sea foam greens, aquas and blues really speak to me. The quilt is aprox 74" x 74", so it's a good bed size. I have another quilt I call "Lemon Tree" from the same line. When i find those pics I'll post them.

Spring is trying hard to get here, and it's nice in the Southwest to have flowers already! I have really felt for so many this winter that have had such a long hard freeze and lots of snow. So here's to spring! Get inspired to quilt something new. See you soon.

I've been a busy bee this year, and I needed to update the most recent publications for some more of my quilts from 2012. Here it is, Dec 21st, the date we were all doomed to die at the end of the world, and lifes keeps ticking on. Not that I was ever worried about the Mayan calendar! LOL! There have been many sad events in these last few weeks but I believe in hope for the future, and continued strength to endure, even hope and faith to push us forward, to enjoy the God given days ahead.

I also wanted to spread some Christmas cheer and some of my favorite Christmas surroundings with love to all, and especially my family and friends. These are just a few of my favorite things.

Well, the heavy monsoons we had this year really made an impact on the Las Vegas valley. This is a view from our back yard as the huge storm that flooded so many parts of the city rolled into our area, in the southwest part of town. The storms are over now, and the crisp cool evenings and early mornings of Fall have arrived. It is so wonderful to walk the dogs and be comfortable! My husband and I decided to celebrate the Fall weather with a new purchase, to give us hours of exercise and entertainment that we are already enjoying, new bicycles!

Talk about a workout. But I'm like a kid with a new toy and so excited to be able to just jump on and ride whenever I want. It's comfortable too, which is a bonus. No more being housebound from the summer heat!! This is my favorite time of year.

Well, Fall also means that Fall Market is in full swing, and believe me, the quilts are cranking out every few days. I'm busier than a one armed paper hanger to say the least. I'm having the best time though, with the new pattern designs and quilts from the new fabric lines that will be revealed in Houston. I have a sneak peak for you of one that I finished that is going into a magazine next spring. It is an RJR line called Cold Spring Dreams and I just love the contemporary look using florals! What do you think?

Fall also means sprucing up the yard and the house, so we potted plants in the yard and painted indoors as well as adding new cupboard doors to the kitchen! Never a dull moment around here for sure!
It's been a fun ride through summer and now it's time to get out the quilts, holiday decorations and ease into a new season. Peanut thinks sleeping on quilts is the only way to go!

Ok, so I have to share more quiling stuff with you this morning. I just finished a traditional quilt I designed from RJR's Incense and Peppermints line by Robyn Pandolph that will be available soon! A couple of weeks ago, I went to a wonderful class with Kim Diehl, and I have to admit she is one of my favorite teachers! I learned a whole new way to applique using several techniques I've used before but put together in a whole new way. I love it! So I had to make some applique blocks of course, plus a few yo yo's and I just shipped the quilt yesterday! So exciting! I'll share some sneak peak views for you here.

I just love it when an applique block comes together! Kim's method looks hand done, but in the end is stitched on by machine.

You use freezer paper templates, but instead of ironing the waxy side to the wrong side of the fabric, you glue stick the center of the paper side to the wrong side of your fabric. Carefully trim around your template leaving a 1/4" seam. The sides of the freezer paper will be loose, so use small scissors and keep rotating the edges in your hand while you trim. Then the fun part begins. Lay your piece right side down on a hard pressing surface, and using a small iron, (I perfer the Rowenta iron) press the edges to the waxy side of the freezer paper! Fabulous! You need very few snips to inner corners--like ONE-- and none to the outer curves! On outer corners press over one side, then the next and then using a dot of liquid basting glue, tuck under the point carefully and press to set the glue.

Now it's time to lay out your pieces. Fold an inner crease corner to corner on your background square to give you placement registration marks and work from the bottom pieces to the top. Put tiny dots of glue along the pressed over seam allowance only, and press in place! This holds all the pieces in place so you don't have to make your background block larger. This eliminates trimming your block to size after the applique is done. By the way, I have always used bias bars for any stems, they work wonderfully!

Sew the edges of your applique pieces, one layer at a time under the sewing machine using a tiny zig zag stitch, setting about 1.0 width and 1.0 length, using a cotton thread in the bobbin and a monofilament thread on top. One swing of the needle goes on the outside edge of the applique, the other into the applique. You will stop and turn frequently so a hands free system on your sewing machine works well (a knee lever to lift the presser foot). Well, I couldn't stop there so I made a pile of yo yo's and sewed them on (this time by hand) for the flowers! This was the most fun I've ever had with applique! It's usually so time consuming, and this was a pleasure to work on. I highly recommend all of Kim Diehl's books where she gives much more detailed instructions to the process, and some beautiful quilt designs too.

It's amazing to me what just four applique blocks can do to add interest to a quilt. You'll be seeing a lot more applique work from me in the future!
The new issue of Best Christmas Quilts 2012 from Quilters Newsletter is in quilt shops and bookstores now! You can also find it through www.quilt andsewshop.com both in hardcopy and digital editions. At $9.99 it's a great value because it has more patterns than most books at half the price.

For the second year in a row, I just happen to have another project in this wonderful Christmas issue! It is probably my most favorite class I have ever taught, and a favorite pattern. It's called Holly and Ivy Tree Skirt, and also is known as my Spiral Tree Skirt!

What I really love about this pattern is that it looks so complicated, yet it is so easy to make and there are absolutely no points to match! The secret is the use of a 9 or 10 degree wedge ruler that is 24" long to cut your wedges out of a strip set. When the ruler is placed at an angle on the strip set it automatically makes the fabrics "spiral" around on the tree skirt!
Amidst the flu in our household, first my husband for over 2 weeks and then me, with a trip to the ER and several Dr's visits I think I'm finally getting back to normal! What a relief to feel human again. I swear I will never miss a flu shot again! During all this I had 2 cataract surgeries which turned out to be a huge success and now I only need glasses for up close work, and that means REALLY up close work my friend! Here I am with my friends at a fun stitchery retreat about 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful day off! From left to right my friends, Pat, Tina and myself. I'm quilting so much these days that doing cross stitch is a new form of fun and relaxation! Right outside the windows was a beautiful golf course and we had a great time.
In the meantime, I've had quite a few quilts going in magazines so far this year, and one last fall that I can see I failed to tell you about! So I've add the latest magazine covers to the right of this post, and here are just a few of the quilts I made for them. The latest is just now coming out, with a wonderful spread by Mc Call's that I'll share with you! These were a ton of fun to make, and really very easy!
LASTLY, the cover for last fall's Best of Quilts for Christmas issue by Quilter's Newsletter. I was so excited about this cover! The quilt used this Quilting Treasures panel print of Christmas Trees and has always been a favorite for me. Easy paper piecing but it does take time with the border.

You can see I've had a lot going on, but I hate missing out on blog time with all of you and searching through all my favorite blogs too. Now there is also Pinterest on the web so what is a body to do? So much wonderful information for all of us out there just full of inspiration! I have so much to show you and share, but I think I better save it for the next post! I should be posting more regularly again and the world is full of more than I can possibly do that I want to do! But I have some fun upcoming projects to share, of modge podge on an old suitcase, spray painting a new file cabinet and my sewing room is looking mighty different these days! I'm also working on a really cute Halloween cross stitch that I'll be sharing soon. Hope you are all having a great year so far, and I hope to be back soon. Thanks for not giving up on me---and keep quilting!!

We had a wonderful time, seeing family, being involved with holiday festivities and enjoying ourselves in general. Of course the quilting didn't stop for long, and I can't believe I'm already designing for the spring lines, but life never stops and I can't believe how fast the time is flying by! It has been beautiful weather here this week, in the 70's and it really feels like spring, but the plants still know it's winter. Our warm days will be gone soon, but it's been a pleasant surprise! Actually it makes me miss my home, the California coast, sitting by the beach. A far cry from the high desert! I found a picture that really inspires me! I love the tranquil feel, the warm sand at your feet and balmy breeze on your face, the twinkle of the sun's reflection on the water, always moving, always changing.
This quilt will be in Quilt Trends magazine this year, it's a line called Odessa by RJR Fabrics! I love the colors and the large floral.
You designers have great ideas!"
Julie, I have no way to contact you, so please let me know your email address, so I can reach you and get the information I need to send you your new magazine! I need to also send your information to the magzine, as you will be entered in other prizes as well! I can only give you 3 days, or I'll have to draw another winner. Congratulations on your new issue of Quiltmakers 100 Blocks, Vol 4. I used a random number generator to pick you out fair and square! Thanks to all of you who commented on my post! I enjoyed hearing for each and everyone of you! Thank you so much!
Well, the new year is coming closer and closer, but instead of waiting for New Years to make a new resolution, I decided to make one last Aug. After a couple of espisodes with health problems I realized I needed to take better care of myself. I've been working out at the gym since August, and I recently decided to become a full fledged Vegetarian! I thought it would be really difficult, no meat, low fat and sugar, and hardly any dairy, but surprisingly, it has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I've slimmed down, I feel better and I have energy to spare. The best part is, I never go hungry! Woo Hoo! I wish I had known before what I know now about food, because it is so wonderful to feel satified and lose weight at the same time! So to celebrate my new regimen, I wanted to share with you a new a recipe that I recently discovered and LOVE! I found the recipe on the Food Network, but here it is:

1/2 lemon, juiced

3/4 cup chopped walnuts, toasted

Freshly ground pepper

Directions

Stir the couscous, cranberries, curry powder, salt, and sugar together in a heatproof bowl. Bring water (amount will be listed on package directions) to a boil and pour it over the couscous. Add the orange juice. Give it a big stir, cover the bowl tightly and let it stand, giving it a big stir once or twice, until the water is absorbed and the couscous is tender, about 5 minutes.
Fluff up the couscous with a fork. Add the olive oil, scallions, parsley, lemon juice, and walnuts. Stir around until everything is distributed evenly throughout the couscous. Make up to 2 hours ahead of time and keep at room temperature until you're ready to serve. Check the seasonings just before you serve the salad and add salt and pepper, to taste.
Note: To toast the walnuts, spread them out on a baking sheet and bake in a 400 degree F oven until they turn a shade darker, about 8 minutes.

I like it warm or cold, and I plan to have it during the holidays. It's also good at room temperature.
We are going to be with our children and grandchildren (all but one family) for Thanksgiving next week and we can hardly wait to see them! We have a new grandbaby and he is over 4 months old, and we haven't seen him since he was a week old! Can't wait! I understand he has become quite the talker as of late too! Grandma is having withdrawals!
I was hoping for more posts and I did manage to get 3 by tonight, but I can't wait any longer for a winner, so I wrote numbers 1-3 for comments 1st through the last, down on a piece of paper, folded and put them in a bowl and tossed them around. My husband drew from the bowl and the lucky winner is Sandy! So Sandy, please send me your address and I will mail your magazine out to you right away!
Thanks all of you for participating! I know I haven't been able to post as often as I'd like to, but I do really appreciate all of you who visit and read my blog very much. You are all an inspiration to me, and it is wonderful to be able to share my love of quilting with you.

October is here and it is an exciting month! So far, we have had HUGE thunderstorms, lots of lighning in the sky and have been awakend in the middle of the night with the heavy rains during the last week.
Here's a quick shot out the front door of what it has been like! The temps have now dropped too, well at least for us, and we are enjoying the cooler weather!
It also means soon we will have warm homemade soup on the stove and cuddle up under lap quilts in the evening doing stitchery and watching movies! Quilt projects will be completed this month, and the new season will go into full swing with Christmas decorations up in the stores before Halloween even gets here! I have just a few sneak peaks for you of new quilts for Market.
CONTEST!Well, after much thought and many requests from customers and stores, I have finally added my current patterns that are for sale to my blog. At this time I don't have a regular website, so until I do develop one I was asked to show you my phone # and email address so it would be easier for you to find and order my patterns. See the list and photos of them to the right of my blog where you can access them at any time. I hope it helps us all!

Of course we are in the full swing of market work for Houston, and I have been working hard on new designs for magazines and fabric companies, like Benartex, RJR Fabrics and P&B Textiles! In between all the "work" I have to do, I actually finished a UFO from a long long time ago! Not my pattern, but just fun to do for the fall season. I have to share, even though it is not quilted yet, and you know that is going to have to wait! LOL!
I loved being able to sew in my room and look out the window to these lavender blossoms when it has been too hot to get outside. Today I broke down and went to the gym because it is impossible to walk outside in the weather without feeling miserable. The humidity has been back with lots of clouds, but unfortunately no rain. I realize how lucky we are though, when I see all the coverage of hurrican Irene hitting the East coast. So ok, maybe I can take the heat for just a little longer!

Some color amongst the rocks is a welcome sight!

But there are other fun things to do even when being home is the best answer to concrete so hot you can fry your own breakfast right there in the front yard!

So I have started a new quilt, with wool applique, just for my own satisfaction! This is the beginnings of a first block from the BOM pattern called Primitive Garden. I'm using hand dyed wools and Valdini threads to hand applique them in place. After the block is finished, I plan to add a few beads and buttons and any other embellishments needed to make it complete.

Here's the pattern, so you can see that I have a long way to go! It will be a work of love in progress over the next few months. I'm having the best time putting this quilt together! It's a nice change.

What else have I been up to? A little stitchery and 10 full blocks that are 13" each from my Legacy Pineapple Sundae kit I've had for well over 2 years. I love these colors and the blocks are really fun to do too. I never buy the color brown when I buy fabric, but this kit has totally changed my mind. The brown in this quilt is so rich and warm.

With ten blocks made so far, each week I have a goal of at least two blocks in between all my other work so I can finish all 30 of them in time for winter. They are time consuming but worth it.

It takes tons of narrow 1 1/4" strips, all used in a variety of sequence to get a somewhat scrappy look. They are a mess to keep track of, so I use these hangers to keep them under control! I pull out the hangers near the cutting table and just cut the lengths I need as I go along, so every block will be different..... yet look the same.

I really enjoyed making this quilt from the Winterbury line by RJR Fabrics! The bow was an older block that I added a thin border to and the tree block is my own new version that I really love. I've been wanting to make a quilt for a long time with a version of the tree block, and this one is just perfect for my needs! I also sell another version of this pattern in a table runner that is now in Keepsake Quilting catalog!
I'm also making the time to work on a favorite project with my friends for a personal quilt using the pineapple block and a pineapple ruler that makes the process so much easier. I have dedicated myself to at least one day a week making something for myself that is not work related. It was necessary for my own sanity and happiness! LOL! So TGIF has a whole new meaning for me now! Getting together with friends, sharing and enjoying their company and learning a few things along the way, some quilting related, some not. Life is good, and I'm so grateful for God in my life and my family and friends. I can't leave this post without the latest picture of my sweet little grandson. He is changing everyday-his Mom and Dad say his hair is getting lighter in color, he still has those blue eyes and he just advanced to a new size in diapers! Now you know I'm a really over the top in love Grandma without a doubt! Until next time, Keep Quilting!

He is so adorable, and of course I'm prejudice but who can resist a cute little face like that? We had a wonderful time and I miss them already, boo hoo. All of a sudden, living 10 hrs drive away is feeling a little too far! Roxy and Peanut rode with us in the car and they were so good, and played with the other dogs while we were there. Roxy actually seems depressed at being back home where it's quiet and not as much action going on. Everyone says a week old baby can't smile, but I beg to differ! Grandma is so proud!

We also got to see our twin grand daughters at their horse show, and watch them ride. I'm so excited! We have a little boy on his way soon, and we plan to travel to see him and his Mommy and Daddy (my son) in July and meet him for the first time! His name is Shane, and my daughter held a beautiful shower for our daughter-in-law last month at her home in Calif. The quilt that went in the magazine is a little girl's basket quilt made from RJR Fabrics line called Annabelle's Alphabet. It is a sweet little quilt, but not quite suited for a boy, so Grandma,--umm that would be ME-is busy putting together a lamb quilt to go with his lamb themed room. I'm using part minkie for the little lambs on the front and his colors are blues and browns. I have a small pic for you of the lamb in question, barely getting started. He still needs eyes, etc, and there will be several lambs with different colored wheels and a sawtooth border between the blocks. I'll post a finished picture when it is done. In the meantime, here is Deanna opening presents and a pic from the baby shower.
